WA-7 Final draft and LAST POST!

Dear Elementary School Class,

This country is facing a very serious and grave danger right now.  Approximately 1 in 3 children in the United States are considered obese, or overweight.  This is a huge problem because of the health risks that come with obesity.  The rate of childhood obesity has jumped incredibly in the last 10 years and if it continues to do this then everybody in the United States will become overweight and unhealthy.  We cannot allow the United States to get any further into this problem.  The United States needs to become a healthier place, because right now we are unsafe in terms of our health.  This means that our current generation will be up too our ears in illnesses and medical bills when we are adults.  People need to get into better shape and live healthier lifestyles so that they can live too a ripe old age.

For the first time in several decades, the average lifespan has gone down in the United States.  This is bad because despite all the new medical technology we have, people are dying earlier.  This is because of the lifestyles that majority of Americans have chosen to live.  People are eating fast food as regular meals instead of on occasion.  People are spending too much time watching TV or playing Video games and they are not getting enough exercise.  As Americans, we have become lazy, oblivious, and have ignored warnings about unhealthy things.  People have no longer practiced moderation, which is never too much or too little of one thing; a good balance.

If people do not start exercising regularly and eating more healthy things, then America will be doomed and will become and overweight nation.  Obesity is a huge issue and we need to stop it before it becomes any bigger.  We need to start being a more health-conscious country and learn from the terrible mistakes we have made in the last 10 years.  Insane diets that stress strange things such as no carbohydrates or only carbohydrates are not the answer to this problem.  The answer is moderation(but not too much of it).  If we practice moderation then we will get healthier and the obesity rate will no longer be an issue.

It is with great seriousness and worry that I warn you children of this danger.  Your generation will soon be adults and your diet and exercise habits will then catch up with you.  I warn you in the hopes that you can address this problem now and eventually reverse the obesity rate back down to a low number. Please do all you can to keep our country healthy.

Good luck, and i hope that we succeed in this mission,

 Michael
