WA-5 Wedding Story

Everyone sits quietly, restlessly.  They all wait for the bride to walk inside and down the aisle. I, of course, am a wig sitting on the man in the third row.  The priest begins to talk and everyone dazes of into a stupor until the bride and groom kiss.  Their happiness radiates throughout the church.  I am not looking forward to the rest of the day, with all the dancing and shaking.  Everyone is cheering as they race out, eager to party for the first time as Mr. and Mrs..  They get to the elegantly laid out reception clubhouse, where they plan to “boogie.”  Everyone arrives, and in a moment the party has started.  Needless to say, there was an open bar, which means drinks will be spilled in me the whole evening.  The band starts playing and people really start having fun.  Dancing, singing, and catching up with relatives illuminate the room.

Just then everything gets quiet.  A ticking noise is heard, but who knows where it was.  All I was concerned with was staying on this guy's head.  Everyone looks for what seems like hours, but no luck.  One person begins to compare their situation to that of Harry Potter in Potter Puppet Pals.  Nobody laughs because, “what if there really were a pipe bomb, and Voldemort was just waiting to pop out and sing?!?”    Well nobody could find it so they figured it would not be a problem.  Then somebody said, “lets have some wedding cake.”  It hit everyone; it was in the last place they had looked.  It was too late.

Cake exploded everywhere.  Countless had been annihilated, and many more were injured.  Whether it was icing in the eye or a flower to the chest, the cake explosion had claimed many casualties.  People were running around, searching for survivors throughout the destroyed clubhouse.  Who would have thought a cake with a bomb in it could do so much damage.    Nah, just kidding.  Everyone was fine because after all, it was just cake.  People decided to salvage the rest of the reception and have some fun.  Some people had icing fights.  Others played with the wedding cake top. Some people even began to play frisbee with me. UGH!

The group then had a giant cake throwing fight and made a complete mess of their clothes, the clubhouse, and everything else in the clubhouse(including me).  The pandemonium gradually turned into a lull of guests satisfied with their childish shenanigans.  All of the guests gave up on cleaning.  Why couldn't they at least clean up my beautiful locks.  I have had icing in them for the last 2 hours and it is really bothering me.

WA4-Final Draft

                                                                                                February 1st, 2009

Dear President Obama,

As you begin your career, I wish you the best of luck (your going to need it).  I hope that these next four years and maybe even four more after them go well.  I believe that the best government for the coming years would focus on healthcare, education, and the war on Iraq/Terror.  I hope you can listen to my thoughts and perhaps act on them

Please work to make this nation a healthier place.  This nation needs a way to give equal healthcare to all, but to not compromise the quality of the care.  I believe that the best way of keeping people healthy is to take measures to prevent health problems.  This means better education about nutrition, making wages high enough that people can afford to eat healthy, and in some way making fast food restaurants healthier.  My generation is plagued with obesity and I hope that you can change that.  This also means researching ways of preventing and even curing cancers and other deadly diseases.  While it may seem to cost more in the beginning, in the long run it is much less expensive.  We have made decisions the last eight years through fear and short sightedness and I hope we will not make the repeat those mistakes when it comes to healthcare.

Education is also a very important part of this country.  Please keep in mind that the best way to ensure a good future for this country is to make everyone have the ability to get a good education.  I ask you to remember where you came from, and to never let the dream that anyone who works hard can achieve anything, die.  I implore you to change the way that this country educates people.  I think that instead of schools stressing SOL excellence, life skills should be taught.  This is important because the whole purpose of education is to prepare people for real world jobs and situations

I also hope that you will end this war in Iraq.  It disgusts me that we have not left for the reason that America must win.  I think the best way to end the war, and to prevent future wars, is to have a strong foreign policy. We as a country have become too much of a control freak.  Instead of putting our resources into creating a democracy in a country that will probably end up having a civil war, we need to help stop the genocide in Darfur and other atrocities being committed around the world.  More than 400,000 civilians have been killed because of the Darfur genocide.  Also do not forget that this nation has 10 trillion dollars worth of debt because of the war that we were practically forced into.

I hope that you can do the best job this nation has ever seen.  In these tough times, the most important is to have a president like you; calm, collected, and intelligent.  Do not forget that.  I hope with your leadership, this country can become the amazing dream that everyone has always wished it were.  Good luck, and thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

WA-2 (final draft)

Jack walked the long hallway, the cop leading him by his cuffs.  He entered the small room where his attorney, a guard, and his concerned parents were sitting.  His mother took one look at him and burst into his tears, his father gave him a look that might have killed him, if he hadn't dealt with it before.

The Attorney began saying, "Mr. and Mrs.Henderson", then he paused," I'm sorry."  He continued by explaining that Jack would most likely be sentenced to 2-3 years in the juvenile corrections facility.  "Due to the fact that this Jack's the third offense, I don't think the jury will be too forgiving this time."   Jack just stared at the ceiling like he always did when he had done something that he knew was wrong, exerting all the effort he could not to meet his father's eyes.

Jack's parents left, and he was escorted back to back to his temporary cell,  which he noticed was much nicer than the regular cells.  He lay down on his bed, just waiting for his court date.  He died a little inside, every time he looked through the window and saw a 12 foot fence surrounding him.  A sunny day always looked sunnier from the inside of a cell, gazing out at the field with absolutely nothing but open space.  Jack wondered whether the free space was there to taunt the prisoners, but the truth was he did not really care, he was just trying to cope with his current situation.  Jack had been in this situation before, but had never been worried.  He had gotten off with two accounts of misdemeanor in the past, but he knew he would not this time.  He thought to himself, "man you really screwed up big this time. Why do you always do these kinds of things?"

A week Jack later got up and showered, dressed, and went to court.  Jack wore a suit that was two sizes too big for him.  The Judge walked in addressing the jury and sat down.  He hammered his gavel, "Bang Bang", This court is now in session", he said.  Jack held a key in his hand, which had brought him both bad and good luck at times.  The judge recited the synopsis of the offense.  Then Jack was called up to the stand.  A light in the court room that was on felt like a spotlight on Jack.  The prosecutor asked Jack several questions that made him feel like he was on the show, Law and Order.  With each question Jack shrunk into his chair like an embarrassed teenager   His hands shook so much that he had to hold on to the cold, smooth arms of thee leather chair he sat on.

The prosecuter finished, and Jack returned to his seat, slumping and fearing the worst.  His mom grabbed his hand and squeezed, as though trying to hug him with her hand.  She was a mechanical vice, squeezing harder with each word the judge said.  A jury member stood up and began to speak, " we find the defendant, GUILTY."  The judge sentenced him to 30 months in juvenile prison.  Emptiness. Jack hugged his father, and then his mother.  His mother whispered she loved him and that she was so sorry that he was getting locked up.  "Is this for the best?", Jack thought, " I cause so much trouble everywhere I go, maybe this is for the better."

Jack went back to that same old dark and dreary cage that he may as well call his home.  He just lay in his bed, looking out the window.  He reflected on his life, all the wrong turns he had taken, and all the crimes he had committed.  He was bound to get caught at some point.  He could not face the fact that he still had 29 months and 30 days left of this mind-numbingly monotonous facility.  So he just waited for the time to pass, him to get older, and a horrible part of his life to pass.
